Position/Job Title: Inventory Specialist

Reports To: Lead Inventory Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY: The Inventory Specialist is responsible for assisting in conducting physical counts of merchandise as compared to the perpetual inventory balance on hand at the company stores. The position requires investigation into variances between the physical count and the store’s perpetual inventory records. The position is also responsible for assisting in conducting physical counts of cash on hand funds maintained at the stores.

TYPICAL SCHEDULE AND WORK LOCATION:

This is a full-time position and the hours of work and days are typically Monday through Friday. Evening and weekend work may be required to meet the needs of the company. The scheduled hours for the 5 day schedule will approximate 40 hours. Hours in excess of 40 hours per work week requires the authorization of their supervisor. Full-time status requires the employee to work a minimum of 35 hours per week.

Daily travel to company stores to conduct the store audits and occasional travel to the corporate office to attend meetings/training is required. Overnight travel is limited to attending training/seminars.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, and grammar.

Experience with Microsoft Office software products, electronic mail software and internet browser software.

A valid driver’s license is required to be maintained at all times.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Prior work experience as a manager in a retail setting utilizing a point of sale system.

Associate Degree or equivalent in Accounting

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Functions):

  • Conduct physical counts of store merchandise on hand by department and compare to the store’s perpetual inventory records.
  • Investigate and document variances between the physical counts and perpetual balances. Part of the investigation procedures may include reviewing security cameras, voids, returns.
  • Conduct physical counts of store cash on hand and compare to the required amounts.
  • Assist Lead Inventory Specialist as directed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a non-sedentary role. Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a technical nature. Lifting objects up to 50 pounds occurs on an infrequent basis.

This position has regular exposure to possible air contamination, such as smoke, dust, fumes, disagreeable odors and airborne particles, while in an indoor environment with adequate ventilation. There will be regular exposure to changing weather conditions, rain, snow, sun and wind while entering and existing between a vehicle and building. There will be exposure to moderate noise, store floor with small number of patrons and traffic/roadway noises while traveling in vehicle. This position requires both close and distant vision.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers/scanners, fax machines, smart phones, money counters/sorters and filing cabinets. The use of screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, shop-vac, flashlight, small hand tools and cleaning materials.
